Well here was what i tot....
Things to consider before (even thinking of) Dating or consider spending your whole life with a Musician:

Professional life....
when you ask a musician which is more important, rehearsal or spending time at home...mostly likely the answer will be ...Rehearsal. Well when you date or get married to a musician you have to consider the fact that, he/she will have something called rehearsals and it is something we take seriously. With that comes, long and sometimes late rehearsals. Why we take seriously, well its our job and at times, it is something that pays the bills.
After a long rehearsal, orchestra buddies, or anything of that sort, usually like to go for supper (something we do even at this young age in our music life). Yes supper is very important. why? well it is a time to bond and socialise. and at times talk about the music that they are playing. I would say some good musical decisions come for these laid back supper sessions.
In the morning probably he/she would practice their music and yes it will be noisy to those untrained ears of yours. A professional might practice for like two hours straight or even more. Depends weather you are practicing a Mahler symphony or a Strauss waltz.
Other then our "day job" we have to teach to earn more money and also share our knowledge. and yes it take us time too...
You see, it is not that your "partner" does not want to spend time with you, he/she has no choice. well that was a glimpse of a professional life and i can assure you in the student, conservatory, life is not very different. Some of my classmates have to go for full time classes, on top of that teach, outside engagements and commitments, and little or no social time.
The common phrase i hear from parents and also friends are, "Musicians have no life...whole day play music." well Music is our life and it is something we have chosen to do. All that i have listed....That's OUR LIFE. What we are doing is an Art form not something you can just read up at the local library. That is why we earn $50/hr and a regular person earns that same amount in a day or two days job.
What you have to deal with....
Here are somethings i you might encounter with your musician. Bad temper!!! yup that is the number one emotion you will face. Yes when we can't get something right, when we are late for rehearsal, when we forget to bring scores, bad conductors, bad ensemble, other people are late for rehearsal, OUT of TUNE, more rhythm, no musicality, stupidity...and many more reason can cause Bad Temper CAUTION.
Day dreaming is also another thing you will face. well not really day dreaming, more like thinking deeply about the music (applies more to composers). They may even tend to dose off but i a sure you they are still thinking.
Imaginary world. Yes to get a musical and beautiful music you need to develop a imaginary story line of the music. and sometimes it reflects on our everyday life. (speaking for experience and also know others that do it).
Compulsive actions....
Compulsive CD buying. Yup good money used to buy good music. absolute essential!!! No question asked.
Compulsive concert going. well we need to know the current standards of the world and also to hear different interpretations of other musicians. and the occasional great soloist, or conductor. or better still a POWER PACK ORCHESTRA or CHOIR!!!!!!!
Compulsive score buying. Yup we need score to play you see. we buy anything score. weather we can play or not...does not matter...just buy and keep. Worst, during a major sale ahahhahaa. Conductor scores, other instrument scores, old, new, nice looking ones, cheap and good, glamorous and ex....also buy.
Others...
other then the above mention details, we have a need to upgrade. upgrade our instruments and keep in the "current" trend. like... buying a new better instrument, buying a better part for your instrument, upgrading music software, buying Reeds and more reeds, buying new mouthpieces, a new piano perhaps ahhahaaaa.....Well all these cost lost of money you know. CAUTION!!!!!
Yup these are the few things i came up with to say "do consider who you date or Wed in the future. For better or for WORST!!!!!" hahhahaaa
My conclusion, a Musician should wed a Musician. Cause only then is there true understanding of both sides. problem is, when will the kids appear.... hahhaa most musician couples i know don't have kids...yet or don't intend to have any. sad.
Well there is a occasional movie, picnic, outings, dinner, travel etc... good things need time and hard work. We musician enjoy these activities only during a major holiday or when rehearsals are cancelled. ahahahahha (speaking from experience).
Well this is just a glimpse of a Musicians life...are you sure you want a Life with a Musician?? Pls understand why we are like that. haha.
Chows!
